Chief James Richey

I would like to welcome you to the official website of the Scottsburg Fire Department. I hope you find our site informative.

I take great pride and honor in introducing you to our department. The Scottsburg Fire Department is a combination department comprised of 2 career employees and 34 volunteer firefighters. We have some of the most dedicated and talented firefighters in the area. Our department has improved in all areas in the last few years and the reason for the improvement is due to the dedication and the hard work of our firefighters.

The City of Scottsburg is located on the intersection of Interstate 65 and State Highway 56 in Scott County, Indiana. Our department serves the City of Scottsburg with a population near 7,000. We provide service not only to the City of Scottsburg, but also provide rescue and medical services to Finley Township located directly west of Scottsburg.

Our department has a roster of 34 volunteer members. These members respond to over 600 calls per year. Our department provides structural fire suppression, all forms of rescue coverage, and provides mutual aid to the other five fire departments in Scott County and other communities in surrounding counties.

I have been fortunate to serve as Fire Chief since February of 2008, and am proud to serve with the dedicated men and women that we have on our department. Our members have a various amount of certifications, including Firefighter I & II, Instructor, Technical Rescue, Fire / Arson Investigation and Hazardous Materials to name a few.

We currently offer services such as educational classes, training for businesses and industries, and tours of the fire stations. Our department also handles all fire inspections within the City of Scottsburg upon request.

Once again I would like to thank you for visiting our site. If you have any questions involving training or safety feel free to contact our department.

Sincerely,

Chief James Richey
